This underscores the need for an updated range-wide synthesis of the population status of both native O. Gigas is larger (Fig 1), grows faster, and free-spawns eggs, while O. Lurida releases larvae after a short brooding period, and typically occurs lower in the intertidal zone [15, 19, 26]. However, they often co-occur within sites and within the mid-intertidal [16, 19] and both perform some of the same ecosystem services, such as water filtration [27]. We developed and implemented novel spatial analysis approaches that yielded an enhanced understanding of conservation issues.
